Infineon Austria awarded Environmental Management Prize 2024

Vienna, Villach November 6, 2024 - Infineon Austria received an award from the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection for the best measure in the field of energy, environmental and climate protection. The prize was awarded for reducing energy use and resource consumption through digital networking and intelligent system control.

"The Environmental Management Award is a special honor for us. It shows how digitalization and decarbonization effectively go hand in hand at Infineon. We are not only a provider of digital solutions, but also actively use digital systems ourselves to further increase the potential of energy and resource efficiency," says Thomas Reisinger, CEO Operations Infineon Technologies Austria AG. "Above all, however, it is a great recognition for our highly motivated team, especially in facility management, where climate-friendly projects are implemented with continuous commitment."  

The award ceremony took place on November 5 in Vienna as part of the Environmental Management Conference by Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler. The jury - consisting of top-class members from science, business and climate protection institutions - particularly highlighted the combination of digitalization and resource conservation.

Digitalization fosters energy efficiency
In the award-winning intelligent System project, or "iSYS" for short, the production systems were digitally networked with the supply systems and intelligently controlled. End-to-end digitalization makes it possible to use energy and resources in line with demand and only use them when they are actually needed. This reduces the use of energy, the consumption of natural gas and process materials and helps to avoid CO2 emissions. With digitalization and artificial intelligence, Infineon is developing production into a smart and learning factory that systematically contributes to operational environmental management.

The project is part of Infineon's long-standing commitment to environmental and energy measures. Since 1997, the Villach site has been voluntarily certified according to the EMAS Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. Continuous improvements in environmental and energy management are audited and documented annually. Examples include the efficient use of resources and energy, waste heat recovery, state-of-the-art exhaust gas purification systems, the use of green electricity and photovoltaic systems, the expansion of the e-charging infrastructure and the upcycling of IT equipment.

About the Environmental Management Award
The Environmental Management Award has been presented annually since 1996 by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Protection for outstanding achievements in environmental and climate protection. Since 2022, the award has been presented jointly with the BMUV in Germany (Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection). The 12-member jury consists of experts from science, business and climate protection institutions. The prize is awarded in three categories: Best Environmental, Nature and Climate Protection Measure; Best Environmental Statement; Best Strategy for Sustainable Corporate Development.
