AC/DC SMPS Integrated Power Stages
Design and build highly efficient and compact AC-DC auxiliary power supplies with Infineon's wide and scalable portfolio
Auxiliary power supplies are an integral part of systems used in applications such as home appliances, servers and datacenters, and consumer and industrial products. They provide the main or standby supply in order to keep critical systems functioning. Infineon's wide portfolio of robust and efficient products empower you to design and build an auxiliary power supply to meet your requirements.
Benefits:
- High efficiency
- Wide range of output power
- Low component count
- Supports wide input voltage
- Supports flyback & buck topologies
- Fixed frequency switching operation
- Quasi-resonant switching operation
Many appliances and equipment require the availability of an auxiliary SMPS power source that works separately from the main power supply to support, for instance, standby operation. Power ratings can vary from a few to a few tens of watts for these auxiliary supplies, which can be either isolated or non-isolated. To ensure good performance, engineers must choose a power topology, including flyback or quasi-resonant, that best meets the efficiency, size, safety, and cost requirements.
With increased reliability and outstanding performance, Infineon’s CoolSET™ AC-DC integrated power stages are designed to offer additional protection to increase system robustness in your auxiliary power supply. To achieve fast start-up performance, the 5th generation controller utilizes the high voltage power supply integrated circuit together with an internal AC-DC switching regulator to operate the start-up sequence in a safe and rapid manner.
The full AC-DC integrated power stage (IPS) portfolio includes the Fixed Frequency (FF) CoolSET™ and Quasi Resonant (QR) CoolSET™ range of products. Integrated with 700 V, 800 V, 950 V avalanche rugged CoolMOS™ P7 family, the CoolSET™ product range is available in both through-hole and SMD packages and thereby eliminates the need of a heatsink and reduces BOM count with a small footprint. The Quasi Resonant CoolSET™ is available in both 2nd and 5th generation configurations while the range of Fixed Frequency CoolSET™ products are available in both 3rd and 5th generation configurations.
Infineon's SMPS designer, PowerEsim, creates custom power supply circuits based on your requirements and proposes solutions based on our evaluation board portfolio or a completely new design. The environment provides you with power supply simulation and optimization capabilities that save you time at all stages of the switched mode power supply design process.
Simulate, optimize, export. Complete your design by running an electrical simulation, download and share your design, print a design PDF report, or start a new design. It's all up to you.
Infineon provides many design support tools to guide and help you on your journey. Two that we would like to particlarly highlight are:
DEMO_5GR2280AG_22W1, which is a 22 W demonstration board operates under a wide range input developed with offline SMPS application in mind. It features the new ICE5GR2280AG PWM fixed frequency CoolSET™ with 800 V integrated MOSFET in DSO-12 package. It brings the benefits of high efficiency with frequency reduction from mid to light load condition and robust operation with adjustable line input over-voltage protection. It is best suited for auxiliary power supplies used in air conditioning, refrigerators, servers, PC power, and audio.
DEMO_5QR0680BG_42W1, on the other hand, features the new ICE5QR0680BG PWM quasi resonant flyback CoolSET™ with 800 V integrated MOSFET in DSO-12 package. It brings the benefit of high efficiency with quasi resonant switching and is a cost-efficient solution for robust protection against line fault. The board is designed to operate under a wide range input and developed to target offline SMPS applications.
