4.5 kV IHV IGBT modules, essential for a green future
We come across 4.5 kV IGBT modules in our everyday life, as they are used to deliver green energy via HVDC transmission lines and stabilize the grid with STATCOM; furthermore they make us and goods we need move conveniently by high speed train and locomotive. In addition 4.5 kV IHV also find their application in large medium voltage drives making them compact and move with low energy consumption.
Our IHV 4.5 kV are the reliable workhorses enabling a stable green grid and shine not only with unique features like VGE of 25 V for lowest losses, but also with highest reliability and robustness.
Our Industrial High Voltage (IHV) IGBT module in 4500 V come in two different packages:
- IHV A is offering a 10.4 kV isolation capability and the corresponding creepage and clearance distances as required by the harsher environments and a current rating range from 800 to 1500 A.
- IHV B is cost-optimized for lower demanding applications at sufficient 6.0 kV isolation with current ratings of 1200 to 1800 A.
You can choose between single switch, chopper or double diode configurations depending on the application requirements.

The well-known market leading IHV 4.5 kV IGBT3 modules have now been upgraded to the latest front- and backend technologies and design possibilities. The FZ1800R45HL4(_S7) feature the latest 4.5 kV chip generation in 8” wafer technology and are the perfect fit for Transmission & Distribution as well as industrial drives. An upgrade from older chip generations is feasible thanks to the standardized IHV B package of 190 x 140 mm.
Both modules can realize 50% higher output power at the same size, which in turn means cost-reduction for the system designer. For example the FZ1800R45HL4 is the first module to enable 1.4 GW HVDC Plants at 320 kV without paralleling. FZ1800R45HL4_S7, in addition, can be driven by applying a gate voltage of 25 V instead of the usual 15 V.
Over 100k pieces of IHV B 4500 V with IGBT3 are the reliable workhorses enabling a stable green grid, now the new FZ1800R45HL4(_S7) will follow this heritage with even lower losses.
