PROFET™ Load Guard 12V
The PROFET™ Load Guard portfolio is characterized by the highest design flexibility provided by the possibility to adjust the overcurrent limitation of each device according to the load requirements. This minimizes design-in efforts by setting up only one design, as the current limit can be adapted on demand if load-driving requirements change. Exchanging devices within the PROFET™ Load Guard family is simple, as the single- and dual-channel devices in the established TSDSO-14 exposed pad package are pin- and function-compatible. With the integrated capacitive load switching mode, a broad range of capacitive loads can be charged in the safe operating area. Furthermore, the family performs precise module diagnostics with best-in-class current sense accuracy in smart switches in low current regions (kILIS). PRO-SIL™ ISO 26262-ready documentation supports the use in safety-related applications.
PROFET™ Load Guard is a flexible device that benefits upcoming automotive power distribution generations. Adjustable current limitation protects sensitive sensor filters, especially for autonomous driving and advanced driver assistance systems.

PROFET™ Load Guard is equipped with the advanced feature adjustable overcurrent limitation to protect the whole system, from loads to PCB traces.
Once the threshold is reached, the current will be limited permanently to the set value until the implemented overtemperature protection automatically protects the device from destruction. The flexible range of the adjustable overcurrent limitation allows setting the threshold according to system requirements and avoids high peak currents to protect sensitive loads such as ECUs.
The overcurrent limitation level can be adjusted using an external pull-down resistor, connected to the ROCT pin. PROFET™ Load Guard offers limitation capabilities from 0.3 to a maximum of 9.2 A, depending on the RDS(on) of the device. This approach reduces the number of external components and significantly saves PCB space in comparison to a discrete circuitry option. In addition, the adjustability ensures high design flexibility, as the product can be chosen for several applications with different current capabilities without the need for high re-design effort.
In order to charge big capacitors, PROFET Load Guard is equipped with capacitive load switching mode. This mode is activated via a 30 kHz signal with a duty cycle of 50% applied to the input pin. Thus, the dynamic overtemperature protection is set to a lower value and a continuous restart is activated. This enables the capacitor to be charged through pumping in the safe operating area, reduced current spikes and results in higher system robustness.
With the capacitive load switching mode no discrete pre-charge circuitry is needed, which reduces external components and PCB area, and there is no longer need for an oversizing of the switch to handle high peak currents, occurring during switch on of big capacitors.
A very low ohmic DMOS power stage, combined with state-of-the-art protection and diagnostic features and advanced features like adjustable overcurrent limitation and capacitive load switching mode, make the PROFET™ Load Guard a very flexible device for all kind of resistive, inductive and especially capacitive loads, such as ECUs.
Find out why the PROFET™ Load Guard is such a flexible device, supporting ADAS as well as intelligent power distribution loads while addressing a broad range of use cases.
