Solid State Isolators
Coreless Transformer Isolators provide galvanically isolated gate drive for a broad range of MOSFET and IGBT switches in SSR applications
Solid State Isolators (SSI) enable the ability to create custom solid-state relays capable of controlling loads in excess of 1000 V and 100 A. The CT based isolators enable energy transfer across the isolation barrier capable of driving large MOSFET or IGBT's without the added circuitry of a power supply on the isolated side. The innovative protection features enable the design of reliable and robust Solid State Relays.

The solid-state isolator (SSI) family provides powerful energy transmission over a galvanic isolation barrier to drive the gates of MOS-controlled power transistors, such as CoolMOS™, OptiMOS™, TRENCHSTOP™ IGBT, or CoolSiC™. The output side of the solid-state isolator family does not require a dedicated voltage supply to drive the power transistor's gate. The output side offers advanced control functions such as fast turn-on, fast turn-off, overcurrent protection and over-temperature protection to easilyand safely build up solid-state relays for various applications. This family includes iSSI30R12H which is tailored for CoolMOS™ S7 T-Sense power MOSFETs offering an integrated temperature sensor. Other parts of the family are for use with external PTC resistors. In addition it offers precise protection functions for building cost effective systems. The input side of the isolator is 3.3 V compatible and operates with a supply current of typically 16 mA. The variants iSSI20R02H, iSSI20R03H, and iSSI20R11H come in a DSO-8-66 package while iSSI30R11H and iSSI30R12H come in a DSO-16-33 package.
Solid-state isolators (SSI) in conjunction with a discrete MOSFET or IGBT assembles a custom-made solid-state relay. This building-block approach enables higher current and voltages to be reached than Infineon’s photovoltaic relays (PVRs). Solid-state isolators provide complete galvanic isolation from input to output without a power supply needed on the output side. Compared to electromechanical relays (EMRs), these custom-made SSRs are a compact solution with low power consumption, long operational life, have bounce-free operation, silent operation, are insensitive to stray electro-magnetic fields, insensitive to normal levels of shock & vibration, have stable contact resistance over life, are positionally insensitive, and do not generate sparks or electric arcs.
When combined with a power switch these solid-state isolators are a versatile circuit element that can create custom solid-state relays. These coreless transformer based sold-state relays can replace electro-mechanical relays and reed relays. Solid state relays are used in numerous application such as battery management systems, power supplies, power distribution, process control, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), automatic test equipment, industrial automation, robotics, instrumentation systems, thermostats, audio equipment, on/off hook switch, general switching, control of display and indicators, and much more.
