Decentralized mirror module
Optimized integration and functionality with decentralized e-mirror modules
Vehicle mirror designs now incorporate complex electronics and multiple functionalities like electronic positioning, mirror folding, memory functions, indicators, and heating. Infineon offers integrated, scalable solutions for efficient and space-saving designs, including SBC (System Basis Chip), NovalithIC™, multi half-bridge, and LITIX™ LED driver ICs.
Streamlined mirror functions with decentralized control
The rear-view mirror contains several functions that require electronic control. Besides the integration in door ECUs, it also appears as a standalone module with a LIN bus connection to an ECU connected to the CAN bus. The most popular design features are, e.g., electronic mirror positioning and mirror fold including memory functions, side indicators, blind spot indicators, and mirror heating.
- Support multiple functions
- Integrated solutions
- Low energy consumption
- Compact design
- Scalability
Power-efficient solutions offer optimized mirror features
To keep this complexity manageable in terms of space on the PCB but also in terms of power dissipated, the integration of functions became a key factor for the design. Infineon offers dedicated solutions for supply and communication, as well as for motor control and LED control with a benefit from low power consumption and low quiescent current:
- OPTIREG™ SBC (system basic chip) : Gathers a system supply (LDO, DCDC), a communication interface, diagnosis, switching function, and fail output in one product.
- MOTIX™ single half-bridge ICs (NovalithIC™) : Low ohmic protected single half-bridge switch (with an integrated MOSFET).
- MOTIX™ multi half-bridge ICs : High ohmic protected multi half-bridge (with integrated MOSFETs).
- LITIX™ : The best-in-class LED driver IC to benefit from the advantages of LEDs while providing full protection to your application.
Configurable and scalable designs to meet a range of applications
An additional challenge for the rear-view mirror design is the increasing number of configurable variants depending on the car manufacturer's platform strategy. To better handle the manifold variants with a single PCB design, scalability within product families has become necessary. Infineon’s power switch ICs have the most scalable portfolio of high-side switches in the market.
Regarding the design, decentralized mirror module systems require:
- A supply and communication interface that can be built discrete (voltage regulator + LIN transceiver) or integrated (SBC)
- A set of scalable single half-bridge switches, multi half-bridges and LED driver ICs with sense, diagnose, and protection functions
- A set of scalable single- and multi-channel high-side and low-side switches with sense, diagnose, and protection functions
