Automotive battery isolated communication
Transmit cell monitored information reliably and safely between isolated high-voltage and low-voltage domains in the battery
Unique isolation solutions for transmitting monitored parameters from cell monitoring units to the main ECU, include both wired and wireless battery management topologies. Infineon offers reliable and cost-efficient solutions for battery isolated communication.
Highly reliable battery isolated communication
All monitored parameters, such as voltages, temperatures, and currents, need to be transmitted to the main battery control unit (BCU), for battery state calculations, housekeeping, and cell balancing. However, while the BCU often sits in the low-voltage domain, the cell monitoring units are located in different high-voltage islands that must be kept isolated at all times.
This is particularly the case for high-voltage batteries. As such, isolated communication is needed to transmit the monitored cell data reliably and cost-efficiently. For this purpose, Infineon offers two types of unique isolation solutions:
- ISO-UART for wired battery management topologies
- Low-power Bluetooth for wireless battery management topologies
Robust Isolated-UART transceiver solutions for wired BMS topologies
- Exceptional robustness against noise for both capacitive and inductive types of isolation
- High-speed communication across multiple daisy-chained monitoring devices for redundant ring topology even if a link breaks
- CRC-protected data frames for enhanced communication reliability
- Support complex battery topologies and up to 1200 V battery packs
- Bluetooth® 5.0 and 5.4 compliant
- Support end-to-end black channel wireless ASIL-D BMS communication
- Baseband processor SoC with an integrated 2.4 GHz transceive
Low-power Bluetooth® for wireless BMS topologies
To meet the even higher requirement of isolating CMBs, a wireless transceiver is a perfect solution.
Infineon offers a set of automotive grades low-power Bluetooth® devices supporting BLE-connected mesh and offering superior network availability, communication bandwidth, the lowest packet error rate, and out-of-the-box end-to-end black channel ASIL-D connectivity.
