Automotive USB-C rear seat charger
Efficiently powering the ride with Infineon's EZ-PD™ automotive USB-C backseat charging chipset solutions.
Our EZ-PD™ high-integrated automotive USB-C PD chipset solutions support USB power delivery 3.0 and dynamic load sharing between ports. They provide a maximum power of up to 100 W per port, based on the device's power needs, and enable USB devices to charge while simultaneously sharing multimedia content with the vehicle. Compliant with USB Type-C and PD specs, it is the perfect choice for superior and efficient USB backseat charging on the go.
Scalable USB-C charger chipset solutions for rear seat charging
Infineon's EZ-PD™ automotive charging solution supports the ever-changing specifications for USB Type-C chargers. A scalable solution makes it possible to create core designs that are flexible and cost-effective while also cutting down on development expenses and time to market. Check out the characteristics of our chipset solutions below.
Scalability: The chipset solution supports single and dual PD port designs for output power up to 100 W with external MOSFETs.
High integration: USB PD controllers (EZ-PD™ CCG7D and EZ-PD™ CCG7S) with embedded CPU, flash, LDO, LIN interface, and DC-DC buck-boost controller allow for compact designs.
Configurability: Infineon's integrated flash enables proprietary charging solutions over USB PD with validated firmware updates.
- Dynamic load sharing
- Output power throttling
- Authenticated firmware update
- Fault occurrence recording
- Programmable power supply
- VBATT to GND short protection
- VBUS to CC short protection
Configurable single- and dual-port USB PD controllers
EZ-PD™ CCG7S and EZ-PD™ CCG7D are, respectively, single- and dual-port USB PD controllers with integrated DC-DC buck-boost controllers. Based on an Arm® Cortex® processor with 128 KB flash and GPIOs, they can interface with the body control module (BCM) over the LIN interface. In order to do so, Infineon uses a proprietary software interface protocol called the host protocol interface (HPI).
EZ-PD™ CCG7S/D can receive OEM/Tier 1 authenticated firmware with an external USB-to-Type-C dongle or over the LIN interface. It then uses the root of trust public key (RoTPK), RSA-2048, and SHA-256 algorithms to validate the firmware before updating its internal flash with the new firmware. This feature enables the EZ-PD™ CCG7S/D to be up-to-date with changing USB standards and any other firmware update that might be required for better functionality, even after the vehicle is out of the manufacturer's production line.
EZ-PD™ CCG7S/D is the heart of the charger module, which integrates a 24 V LDO, enabling the controller to be powered up from the automotive battery.
