SmartCard Payment
Recent years have seen a rapid rise in the popularity of contactless payment cards around the globe. Small, light, and convenient, smart cards reach beyond the commonly used credit and debit payment functionality to also support other applications. They can be designed as contact, contactless, and dual-interface cards. An integrated chip, compliance with international EMVCo standards, and data encryption make these multi-application cards extremely secure. For particularly robust protection, they typically support both dynamic data authentication (DDA) and combined dynamic data authentication (CDA) schemes.
We are driving the evolution of payment cards by bringing the huge advances in 28 nm microchip technology that have already benefited the semiconductor market in general to payment use cases specifically. Our recently launched 28 nm technology node is a pioneering step for this future-focused technology in the payment space, setting new benchmarks for performance and security. Building on EMVCo certification, 28 nm technology gives today’s manufacturers an adaptive and innovative edge for future security requirements. The 28 nm platform also increases manufacturing flexibility as it supports robust dual-interface and multi-application cards through solutions such as our SECORA™ Pay family for payment plus transport ticketing. Fast transaction speeds are enabling a multitude of innovative use cases along the payment card value chain and beyond.
Our security controllers support the full payment application spectrum, extending from pre-paid and loyalty cards through standard dual-interface payment cards to biometric system-on-card solutions and wearables such as fobs and rings. All of our controllers are compliant with the latest EMVCo specifications. In our latest portfolio based on 28nm, Integrity Guard 32 and SOLID FLASH™ technology plus full support for contactless protocols take security performance to the next level for even wider application reach. With their robust packaging, our controllers are also designed to deliver the transaction speeds required for contactless applications such as transport ticketing. For ease of deployment, our highly robust, easy-to-integrate contactless and dual-interface packages such as Coil on Module (CoM) accelerate the transition from contact-based to dual-interface, while improving the performance and reliability of the final product.
Contactless technologies are inspiring new and innovative form factors, also enabling additional use cases alongside payment. Our SECORA™ Pay portfolio delivers contactless payment safety through a range of features, including sophisticated Java Card™ technologies, pre-certified payment options, as well as support for Visa®, Mastercard®, Discover®, American Express® and more. Our robust SECORA™ Pay solutions on 28 nm technology bring added flexibility and security to the payment space, paving the way for innovative, future-proof use cases based on dual-interface payment cards and multi-application schemes. The SECORA™ Pay product family uses a security controller with certified software integrated into Coil on Module (CoM) chip modules. Standardized inlays enable fast, easy, and efficient production for card manufacturers. Outstanding contactless transaction speeds and superior performance make SECORA™ Pay ideal for emerging use cases.
