Internet of Things

Refrigerators that order food items from the supermarket that are running low; cars that agree on who gets the parking spot, and systems that maintain industrial plants over large distances to proactively prevent impending outages – the Internet of Things (IoT) connects devices in homes, factories and the public sphere. The aim is to cut costs and energy requirements.

But how does the Internet of Things work? What is required to allow devices to communicate with each other? Where does the Internet the Things already make our life easier now and will do so in the future? And what challenges do we have to tackle? The “Discoveries” deliver answers to those questions.
