Monolithic full-featured voltage regulators designed for alternators
The regulators are AEC-Q100 qualified and tailored to withstand the harsh conditions of the automotive environment. The standard LIN interface enables communication with an engine-management or energy-management ECU (LIN 1.3/LIN 2.1/LIN 2.2). By using free-adjustable parameters, the automotive alternator voltage regulators can continue to operate even without a communication interface.
Flexible portfolio of automotive-qualified LIN alternator regulator IC
The Infineon alternator voltage regulator IC family is compliant with various LIN regulator specifications (including VDA) and is therefore qualified and released by many original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The output driver stage consists of a high-side DMOS for up to 12 A excitation current and all products provide 8 kV ESD protection. The EEPROM with adjustable parameters offers possible customization of the alternator to the specific OEM or application needs.
Secure and reliable operation for demanding automotive environments
Alternator regulators provide secure and reliable operation in a range of application areas in the demanding automotive field, where temperature ranges can vary, and a range of complex functionality is required. This can include everything from interior and exterior lighting to instrumentation and display. There are multiple benefits of using Infineon’s LIN controlled alternator voltage regulator products, such as supporting conventional alternator and start-stop systems; fully digital PI regulation with a fast and accurate performance; compliance with VDA LIN-generator-regulator specifications; supporting rectification with standard P/N diodes, low-loss diodes, and MOSFETs; EEPROM for outstanding flexibility during on-site customization of target application; LIN interface (LIN 2.1 on physical layer, LIN 1.3/LIN2.1 on datalink layer); very low quiescent current (less than 80 μA at 25°C), excellent EMC performance; High ESD resistivity of 8 kV on all lines; high current (12 A) and temperature (up to 175°C) capability; available as bare die for mechatronic brush holder as well as in automotive industrial standard packages TO-220-5; green product (RoHS-compliant) and AEC-Q100-qualified.
LIN compliant alternator regulators for OEM & 12 V target applications
Infineon’s monolithic voltage regulator control ICs can be used in the following 12 V target applications: 12 V automotive alternators with LIN interface, 12 V automotive alternators with LIN interface, 12 V aftermarket alternators, and 12 V industrial generators.
Communication with an engine-management or energy-management ECUs
In automobiles, alternators regulators are used in to charge the battery and to power the electrical system when its engine is running.
The Infineon alternator control ICs are monolithic full-featured regulators specifically designed for closed loop voltage control for 12 V automotive multi-phase alternators with a rotating field winding. This regulator is able to communicate with an engine-management or energy-management ECU via a standard LIN1.3 (datalink layer) interface. By using freely adjustable parameters, the regulator is able to operate even without any communication interface. They are qualified according to AEC-Q100 and tailored to withstand the harsh conditions of the automotive environment.
What are the benefits of Infineon's alternator regulator products?
They are qualified according to AEC-Q100 and tailored to withstand the harsh conditions of the automotive environment. The regulators are able to communicate with an engine-management or energy-management ECU through a standard LIN interface. The battery voltage is regulated at a precise value between 10.6 V and 16 V. By using free-adjustable parameters, the regulators are able to operate even without any communication interface.
The family is compliant to various LIN alternator regulator specifications and thus qualified and released by leading OEMs.
