DC motor control IC highlights for automotive applications
Whatever you touch in a car, there is an electric motor close by. Brushed DC motors are easy to control and often serve as actuators with an overall short operating time. Torque control down to zero speed is easy to achieve. Typical applications are:
- Body applications such as power seat modules, power closure systems, window lift, sunroof, mirror modules and wipers.
- Powertrain and thermal management such as HVAC control modules, and engine cooling fans.

BLDC motor control IC highlights for automotive applications
Brushless DC (BLDC) motors have less wear but need a complex control algorithm and, therefore, higher computing power than a DC motor drive. BLDC motors are most suitable for applications demanding long-term continuous duty. Typical applications are
- Powertrain and thermal management such as HVAC compressor, auxiliary pumps, fuel pumps and engine cooling fans.
- Security relevant applications such as electric power steering, brake booster, and MHEV starter generator.
