Wireless Charging ICs
Highly integrated wireless charging ICs with advanced customizability options to meet industry compliance standards and proprietary requirements.
Wireless charging is becoming an increasingly expected feature on many commercial devices and is rapidly driving forward innovation in other industries. More and more car brands are also implementing in-cabin wireless charging solutions to answer consumers´ need for simple and cable-less charging. Manufacturers looking to capitalize on the consumer demand for convenience and efficiency require wireless power transfer (WPT) systems that offer high performance at low cost and custom scalability that complies with the latest charging standards.
The wireless charging IC range offered by Infineon is designed to meet these requirements by offering high integration at an industry-leading standard for expedited development cycles, adaptive foreign object detection (FOD) and device authentication per the latest Qi 1.3 framework for magnetic induction charging, and flexible topology and software configuration options.
Infineon’s wireless charging ICs offer straightforward inductive power transfer (IPT) solutions for a broad range of potential applications. The WLCx family combines high integration with advanced customizability options to best meet Qi charging IC standards as well as being scalable to proprietary charging requirements.
Key benefits include:
- Single controller for Qi, Buck and USB-PD
- Enables highly efficient wireless charging solutions
- Flexible topology options for voltage and frequency control
- Adjustable FOD and system protection thresholds
- Configurable software for compliance and proprietary modes
- Automotive application supports 3-coil EPP design and support for LIN interface
The result is a high-performance and low-cost integrated solution capable of considerably expediting time to market while reducing overall system cost. Full compatibility with OPTIGA™ Trust Charge offers trusted device authentication as specified by Qi 1.3 transmitter IC standards and inclusion of Infineon's OptiMOS™ power devices allows for highly flexible thermal management options within an operating temperature range of -40C – 105C.
Our consumer and industrial solutions are available in a tray package (WLC1115-68LQXQ and WLC1150-68LQXQ) and tape & reel package (WLC1115-68LQXQT and WLC1150-68LQXQT). The automotive transmitter is also available in both tray and tape and reel packing (WLC1515-68LDXS/T) and comes with an AEC-Q100 package with 0.5 mm pitch.
Wireless power transfer (WPT) functionality has seen widespread adoption across a broad range of commercial, industrial, and automotive applications. Over the past decade, wireless charging has become an expected feature of mid-high-end smartphones and wearables such as wireless headphones and smartwatches. Elsewhere in the home, common household products from power tools to small kitchen appliances are increasingly integrating wireless charging into their designs to offer consumers the convenience they demand and as a means for manufacturers to gain an edge within highly competitive markets.
Beyond the household, magnetic induction charging is driving innovation in several key industries including the automotive industry – where it is predicted the majority of future cars will feature in-vehicle wireless charging - the service industry – where highly autonomous drones and robots are redefining what was previously thought possible - and healthcare – where wireless charging is helping to make health accessories safer and more hygienic.
