Broadest energy-saving portfolio of high-precision magnetic switches
Infineon’s portfolio of XENSIV™ magnetic switches and latches (formerly referred to as a Hall switch and Hall latch, respectively) are employed within the automotive, industrial, and commercial sectors to usher in the next generation of smart technology capable of efficiently understanding and reacting to its environment. Each magnetic sensor switch is built in-house to industry-leading standards as the best-fit solution for every customer application. The next generation of high-end, precision bipolar and unipolar Hall effect sensors is suitable for high-precision applications with operating temperature ranges from -40°C up to 170°C and a supply voltage range from 3.0 V to 32 V (max 42 V with overvoltage capacity). They also feature newly optimized overtemperature and overcurrent protection. These sensors are ideally suited to numerous position detection applications and frequently serve in power closing applications, such as sunroofs and window lifters. Other Hall effect sensor models are specifically suitable for rotary position measurement in BLDC motors, as well as pole wheel index counting with a considerable range of potential automotive and industrial applications.
Superior operating ranges, low footprint, and precise switching
A magnetic switch is employed to recognize and relay the presence of a magnetic field within a determined threshold. Thanks to superior operating ranges, a reduced footprint, precise switching points, and minimal energy consumption, Infineon’s range of switches and latches offer the ideal solution in systems spanning the automotive, industrial, and commercial sectors. The broadest selection of Hall effect magnetic switch sensors is backed by over 40 years of experience and designed to superior standards of energy efficiency, space reduction, and precision. With a meager current consumption of 1.6 mA and a minimal package size 10% smaller than previous iterations, users are able to create optimized systems across a range of industries. Meanwhile, the TLV range of magnetic switches and latches are cost-effective and easy-to-use alternatives for the consumer market. Open/close detection in white goods and automated smart technology, and commutation of BLDC motors within consumer goods are common applications.
Hall effect switches and latches determine magnetic field presence
Utilizing Hall effect technology, magnetic switches and latches can precisely determine the proximity of a magnetic field. By positioning a magnet upon the system you wish to monitor, in conjunction with a Hall effect switch sensor in a perpendicular position, the flow of current is altered. The resulting magnetic field can then be used to collect precise proximity data – all without making contact between objects, resulting in increased reliability and lifespan.
With models explicitly optimized for a range of usage, such as low-power applications requiring precision data with a broad operating temperature range, straightforward and cost-effective residential solutions, and operations on unregulated power supplies, Infineon’s portfolio of magnetic (Hall) switch sensors are bridging the gap between human and technological communication.
Our portfolio of XENSIV™ magnetic switches and latches
Infineon’s magnetic switches operate on the Hall effect principle; as a proximal magnet disrupts the flow of electrical charge, a potential difference is created, determining the absence or presence of a magnetic field. First identified over 100 years ago, the Hall effect has been put to considerable practical use across a range of industries over recent decades. A Hall effect sensor switch is turned on/off in the presence of a predetermined magnetic threshold, making them ideally suited for various proximity detection applications.
Magnetic latches operate on the same principle but are also capable of sensing and responding to magnetic polarity. A magnetic latch is used for storing the signal and - where the state of a switch is changed once the magnetic field is removed - a latch maintains its status until an opposite polarity of sufficient strength is introduced.
While the functionality of magnetic switches and latches overlap with Infineon’s broader range of magnetic position sensors, they are explicitly designed for optimal results within index counting, position detection, and commutation applications.
Magnetic switches for automotive, industrial, & consumer applications
Infineon’s range of magnetic switches sees broad application throughout the automotive industry, as well as proving effective in numerous industrial and consumer applications. TLE496x Hall effect switches are automotive qualified, while the TLI496x range is dedicated to industrial use. Both are suitable for applications requiring a broad operating temperature range, precision reading, and minimal current consumption. Major applications include rotor position detection within BLDC motors (e.g., wiper, pump, seat motors), window/sunroof lifting, and safety functions, such as seatbelt and steering angle detection.
The TLV496x magnetic switch range has been designed specifically for consumer applications - a cost-effective and straightforward solution to numerous position sensing requirements. Applications include BLDC motor commutation for smaller consumer devices (e.g., e-bikes, fans, aircon units), automatic doors and other smart home technology, and security systems.
