EZ-PD™ Barrel Connector Replacement (BCR)

EZ-PD™ Barrel Connector Replacement (BCR) is Infineon's highly integrated USB-C port controller family targeting electronic devices that use various barrel connectors for power. Portable devices such as speakers, headphones, cameras, game consoles, power tools, electric shavers, rechargeable toys, etc. that ship with a custom-made charger using one of these incompatible connectors today can be standardized using USB-C in the future. 

EZ-PD™ BCR is the intermediate Barrel Connector Replacement of the portfolio: it is USB PD 3.0 compliant, integrates an Arm^® Cortex^® -M0 MCU at 48 MHz and supports USB-C charging (5 V at 0.5 A, 0.9 A, 1.5 A, 3 A). It is USB data compatible and can be tuned to customer needs with the EZ-PD™ BCR HPI utility. Its device includes Vbus to CC short protection, OVP/UVP and ESD protection on CC.

EZ-PD™ BCR family is the ideal solution for electronic devices opting for a USB-C power input in lieu of a proprietary connector.  It is a plug-and-play solution that allows designers to quickly convert their devices’ power input from a barrel connector to a USB-C connector without invasive changes to their existing design. The EZ-PD™ BCR controller contains a market-proven, fully-automated USB Power Delivery policy manager that interoperates with virtually any USB-C power source. Expert knowledge of the USB-C and Power Delivery standards or firmware development is not required to develop a robust USB-C powered system. To safeguard against system-level fault conditions, the EZ-PD BCR™ controller integrates various protection circuitries including VBus-to-CC short, overvoltage, overcurrent and ESD.
